Townwide Tennis, the Evolution.

The seeds of Townwide Tennis were sown in 2014 when Chris Sutton agreed to be the organizer of the Southbury Area Tennis League, which, at the time, only supported men’s singles tennis. Chris, and wife Jenn, quickly realized three things: 1) many tennis players are looking to find equally skilled players in their area  2) tennis players enjoy friendly competition and 3) players enjoy the flexibility of organizing their own matches on their own schedule. Thus was born Townwide Tennis, which within three years, added doubles, women’s leagues and mixed doubles divisions. To date, over 200 players from 13 towns have participated in Townwide

Our mission remains unchanged:  to provide low-cost friendly competitive tennis to adult players of all skill levels.

One thing that separates Townwide from other tennis leagues is the end of the year award ceremony/celebration/barbecue which happens every September at the home of Townwide friends Ken and Melinda Grice. We are told some people join the league just for the party, which may be only a mild stretch of the truth!

Chris and Jenn live in Oxford, CT, a stone’s throw from the local tennis courts. Their rescue dogs Sophie and Katy have no shortage of balls to play with. In his spare time, Chris is a high-school physics teacher and tennis coach (Go Hawks!), and Jenn works as an Administrative Manager/Accounting Assistant at a global insurance underwriting company and dances to Zumba whenever possible.

“This local tennis league idea run by a website works so well. You meet so many great people and have fun matches.”
