How it Works

The concept is simple. Register, play your matches, report your scores. We do the rest!

Register. Townwide Tennis is open to men and women, 18 years or older, of any skill level. You may register in any town you’d like, as long as you are willing to travel to that town for matches. If there is not currently a league near you, let us know!

  1. Select the league you want to join here. If you want to play in multiple divisions (i.e. Women’s Singles and Women’s Doubles), proceed through the registration process for each division.

  2. If registering for doubles, please provide your doubles partner’s name (and email address if you have it.)

  3. You may play doubles with your son or daughter even if they are not 18.

  4. You don’t have to live in Southbury, but Southbury is the default location for matches!

  5. Once you have registered and paid, you will have access to the member lists, which you will need in order to contact members for matches.

Play matches. Membership in Townwide Tennis allows you to schedule your own matches and play at your convenience.

  1. Players will be placed into subdivisions in their league based on self-reported skill level.

  2. You have until the end of the season (late September) to play as many as 10 matches within your subdivision. This means that you can play the same individual (or team) twice but no more than twice. We are calling this the “Paganucci Hybrid” system.

  3. You will be awarded 3 points for a win, 1 point for a loss, and 2 points for a draw. Notice in this system, going 4-4 (16 points) is better than 5-0 (15 points) so please make every effort to play all your matches.

  4. Tiebreaker 1: Head-to-head result. Tiebreaker 2: Most matches played. Tiebreaker 3: More wins in a higher color division. Tiebreaker 4: Whoever played their first match earlier.

General procedures.

  1. You will be given access to a player list with contact information around May 1.

  2. It is your responsibility to schedule your own matches. The default location is Southbury unless both players agree to an alternative venue.

  3. Matches will be the best of 3 sets unless both players agree to a modified match prior to play (such as an eight game superset or third set tiebreaker.) On rare occasions, both players may agree that a match is tied, if a substantial portion of the match has been played and can’t be completed (i.e. for darkness).

  4. Both players (or teams) bring an unopened can of balls to the match and the winner gets to keep the unopened can!

  5. The winner reports the score on the website in your account page, using the “Report a score” form and it will be processed by our admin.
